Trinity Sunday:

Now that the Easter Season has closed at the feast of Pentecost, we now enter the time for what is called the Feasts of the Lord. Today we keep Trinity Sunday, next Sunday we keep the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (usually abbreviated to just "Corpus Christi", then on June 27th we keep the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. If salvation in Christ is described as a mystery, then the Christian understanding of God as "three persons but one God" takes us deep into the mystery of God himself. But this is what we strive towards in this celebration of Mass today. As the Catholic people, usually everytime we begin a time of prayer we bless ourselves with the identity of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and with the sign of the Cross of Christ. These words/actions takes deeper into the mystery of God and of salvation through the cross of Christ. At the end of Mass today we may be no wiser about the Holy Trinity than when we started, but it is good to acknowledge our need of God's enlightenment as we celebrate who He is.
